3/28/23: How to Turn Off Focused Inbox in Microsoft Outlook

By default, Microsoft Outlook will separate your inbox into two tabs, focused and other. Microsoft will attempt to sort your emails by importance. If you have emails you cannot see in your inbox, they may incorrectly sort into the other tab. There are two ways to resolve this issue:

1. You can right-click on an email that is in the incorrect tab and choose either Always Move to Focused or Always Move to Other. This has to be done to each individual sender.

2. Because of the tedious nature of marking every incorrectly sorted sender incorrectly, you may want to turn off the setting completely. Below are instructions based off of where you are accessing email and what version you have installed.

Web Portal:

1. Login to your email at outlook.office.com

2. After signing in, click on the settings icon, which is shaped like a gear.

3. Toggle Focused Inbox to the off position.

Outlook App for Android:

1. After opening the Outlook App, tap on the white Office 365 icon in the top left corner.

2. Tap on the settings icon, which is shaped like a gear.

3. Scroll until you find the Focused Inbox option and toggle it to the off position.

Outlook App for IOS:

1. After opening the Outlook app, tap on the circle with you initial in it.

2. Tap on the settings icon, which is shaped like a gear.

3. Scroll until you find the focused Inbox option and toggle it to the off position.

Outlook Desktop App on your PC:

1. Open Outlook on your computer.

2. Choose your Inbox on the left side of the page

3. Click on View in the top ribbon.

4. Click on Show Focused Inbox to toggle it off and on.
