7-27-21: Email Security Updates

Crowder Colleagues,

The Information Services team continues to improve Crowder College's cybersecurity posture and limit the spam emails delivered to our inboxes.  Those phishing, malware, and spam emails that enter can be both annoying and dangerous to our network.  On Thursday, August 5th, we will enable Avanan Cloud Security service to increase email security.  More info about Avanan can be found at: https://www.avanan.com/

How will this impact you?

The following changes to email will occur:

  • Emails believed to be phishing or malicious with a very high level of confidence will be quarantined. If you do not receive an email that you are expecting, please create a work order or reach out to HelpDesk with the sender's information to see if the email was quarantined.
  • Emails suspected as being possible phishing or malicious will also be quarantined. You will receive an email notifying you that you may request the suspicious email to be reviewed by HelpDesk and sent to your inbox if it is not a security concern.
  • Please note, you may receive warnings at the top of some emails to indicate that an email contains qualities of phishing.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with HelpDesk by creating a ticket at www.crowder.edu/ticket, emailing Help@crowder.edu, calling 417-455-5712, or visiting in person in McDonald Hall room 217 on the Neosho campus.

A resource regarding phishing emails that have been seen is available on MyCrowder under the Information Services tab.  Please continue to report phishing emails with the Phish Alert Button.

Thank you for your continued vigilance,
