With the growing proliferation of services and accounts we each use for our personal life, there is a growing risk of those personal accounts being compromised.
The linked blog offers several excellent steps for handling a compromise to one of your personal accounts. Keep in mind, a second social media account pretending to be you means your account has been "spoofed", not compromised.
While a personal Facebook, Amazon, or Netflix account may not immediately relate to your work accounts, if a personal account is compromised it is beneficial for HelpDesk to be aware so we can review for any questionable activity on your Crowder accounts.
Following is a summary of the steps suggested in the blog, a few personal additions, and a link to the original article.
- Sign out on every device.
- Change your password.
- Report the hack.
- To the service provider.
- And to Crowder HelpDesk so we can look for any questionable activity internally.
- Check for surprise changes.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) - I would suggest doing this to all accounts you can before any of them are compromised.
