6/1/26: Upcoming Changes to Computer Updates

Dear Crowder Colleagues,

To improve the security, performance, and reliability of campus computers, Information Services is rolling out several changes to the way systems update across campus devices.

What to Expect

  • You will receive a notification prompting you to restart your computer when updates are ready.
  • The notification will allow you to delay the reboot for two (2) hours, up to five (5) times before forcing the computer to reboot.  NOTE: This should allow instructors to delay reboot until after class concludes unless the reboot has already been delayed multiple times.
  • If no user is logged in, systems may automatically reboot to complete updates.

Below is an example of the restart notification you may see:

What You Need to Do

  • Save your work regularly, especially when you receive a restart notification
  • Restart as soon as practical to avoid repeated reminders
  • Leave your device powered on when possible so updates can run during scheduled times

We appreciate your understanding as we roll out this improved update system. If you have any questions or experience issues, please contact the IT Help Desk at www.crowder.edu/ticket,  help@crowder.edu, 417.455.5712, or come visit us in person in McDonald Hall room 217 on the Neosho campus.

Thank you,

Information Services Team
